Date of Activation: 10/25/1990

Commander and Department: Capt. Gene Hoff, Bridgeton PD

Deputy Report Officer and Department: Det. Jerry Burke Jr, Florissant PD

Victim: Jesse A. Wallace

Suspect: Robert Eugene Hagen

The Normandy Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Jesse Wallace (age 50). On 08-06-1990 at approximately 12:06am, a neighbor found Jesse Wallace lying in the front yard of his residence in the 7800 block of Ellington Drive. Police and paramedics responded to the scene and Jesse was transported to the hospital with a head injury. At the time, it was believed Jesse had fallen down the stairs and struck his head. Jesse died on 08-24-1990 never having regained consciousness.

On 10-25-1990, Jesse’s body was exhumed so an autopsy could be performed. The autopsy showed Jesse was the victim of a homicide. Jesse had been struck on the side of the head, possibly with a flat object, which caused his death. Once Jesse’s death had been ruled a homicide, the Major Case Squad was activated.

As a result of this investigation, Robert Hagen (age 33) was charged with Murder 2nd Degree. His bond was set at $200,000.
