May 19, 2024 – 1:00 PM
At 8:30 PM on May 18, 2024, the Bridgeton Police Department responded to the area of Earth City Expressway and Corporate Woods Dr regarding reports of approximately 100 vehicles driving recklessly on the roadway.
Bridgeton Police Officers responded and were met with gunfire as vehicles attempted to flee the area. At least five people were injured during the incident. One individual was transported via ambulance to an area hospital and remains in critical condition.
The investigation remains in its initial stage.
Officers secured the scene and notified detectives. Shortly afterward, the Bridgeton Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis.
Lt. Steve Hurst, of the Overland Police Department, is the Commander assigned to this investigation.
