Major Case Squad Homicide Investigation
Unincorporated Belleville, Illinois
On July 3, 2023, around 9:56 p.m. St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the 1800 block of Roosevelt Avenue, Belleville, Illinois, in reference to a subject shot. Upon arrival, St. Clair County Deputies located the 10-year-old victim, Brandon Scott, inside the residence with a gunshot wound. Scott was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department requested assistance from the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis. Twenty-four investigators were activated and assisted in the investigation.
The Major Case Squad has investigated approximately 50 leads so far. Investigators have identified 2 persons of interest and located evidence critical to the investigation.
On Friday, July 7, 2023, the St. Clair County States Attorney Office filed the following charges in reference to this investigation:

Florissant, Missouri
1st Degree Murder
Bond $1,000,000
Devin M. Dunbar
20 years old
Spanish Lake, Missouri
1st Degree Murder
Bond $1,250,000
The Major Case Squad would like to express their condolences to the family and friends of Brandon Scott. This unfortunate and tragic event has not only touched his family, but the entire community.
10-year-old Brandon Scott lost the opportunity to live out a prosperous life due to the senseless acts of those who were charged in this investigation.
