On Wednesday, July 10th, at approximately 7:25 AM, the Cahokia Heights Police Department responded to the 2000 block of Maple Tree Lane, Cahokia Heights, IL, following a 911 call about a deceased male located inside a residence.
Officers arrived on scene and discovered the resident, 68-year-old Stephan L. Monigan, deceased with apparent gunshot wounds.
A known acquaintance, 56-year-old Vermonica L. Turley, was taken into custody at the scene.
The Major Case Squad was activated, and nineteen detectives responded to assist with the investigation.
On Friday, the results of the investigation were presented to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office. Vermonica was charged with one count of First Degree Murder and is currently being held in the St. Clair County Jail pending further court proceedings under the SAFE-T Act.
