On Friday, August 12th, 2022, at approximately 10:45 pm, the Belleville Police Department responded to the 9800 block of W. Main St., in reference to a report of a male shot. Responding officers located a black male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Deante J. White, 33, of Belleville was pronounced dead at the scene.
Subsequently, the Belleville Police Department requested the activation of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis to lead the investigation. Currently, there are approximately 12 investigators assigned to the case, being led by Deputy Commander Mark Kuechle.
