UPDATE: MAJOR CASE SQUAD INVESTIGATE OVERLAND HOMICIDE

The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis continues its investigation into the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Gersain Rugerio-Rodriguez, of Overland.

On Tuesday, July 18, 2023, the Greater St. Louis Major Case Squad was activated to assist Overland PD in a homicide investigation. At approximately 11:34 pm, the Overland Police Department responded to the 9400 Block of Baltimore for a report of a shooting. The male victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Overland Police Department then requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad.

On Friday, July 21, 2023, the St. Louis Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Gavon Simmons, B/M 05/06/97 of St. Louis County, with:

• Murder 1st Degree
• Armed Criminal Action

Bond was set at $1,000,000 cash (no 10%)

Simmons is currently being held in the St. Louis County Jail.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
